What is Prevention  Education?

Prevention Education is a tool used to stop harmful behaviors before they happen. Project Sister Family Service's prevention education courses uses evidence-based practices to inform participants of their rights, applicable laws, and reduce the likelihood of sexual violence occurring in the future.

Instead of reacting to a crisis after it occurs, our prevention education courses gives people the knowledge and tools to make safe, healthy choices.

Expectation Setting

Prevention education can help set the standard for how we can expect to be treated. It can help individuals recognize harm before it escalates.

New Terms

Prevention education can give terms and definitions to help people describe experiences they previously couldn't name.

Safer Choices

Prevention education can encourage safer choices, boundary building, and bystander action.

Risk Reduction

Prevention reduces rates of future harm, isolation, and long-term trauma.

Learning about sexual assault at a young age helped me process my own assault that occurred later in life.

I knew it wasn't my fault. I knew how to talk about it with my family. I knew how to begin my healing journey.
