Healing the Heart 2007: a very happy birthday partyProject Sister Family Services' seventh annual Healing the Heart fund-raising event was held on Thursday, May 10, 2007 at Kellogg West Conference Center and Lodge on the campus of Cal Poly Pomona, raising over $25,000 in support of Project Sister Family Services' programs and services for survivors of sexual violence and child abuse in the East San Gabriel and Inland Valleys. This festive evening celebrated the agency’s 35th anniversary, and honored members of the community whose work has furthered Project Sister Family Services' mission to reduce the trauma and risk of sexual violence and child abuse. The 2007 Justice Armand Arabian Award was presented to Senator Gloria Negrete McLeod, representing the 32nd Senate District of California, for her efforts on behalf of victims of violence. The award was presented to her by Raymond P. Boucher, Liaison Attorney for over 700 cases and representing more than 360 victims in the lawsuits against the Archdioceses of Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange County, San Bernardino and Fresno in California, and 2006 Armand Arabian Honoree. Introducing Mr. Boucher was the Hon. Justice Arabian, after whom the award is named, in honor of his many years of work in creating changes in the judicial system that enhanced victims’ rights and ensured the equitable treatment of sexual assault survivors.
The 2007 Founders Award was given to Soroptimist International of the Chino Valley, for their longtime friendship and outstanding support of Project Sister. Presenting the award was one of Project Sister’s founders, Marian Last, who, as a student at Pitzer College, helped to establish the home-based hotline that would grow into the rape crisis center our region depends upon today. This year’s guests were also treated to a memorable return appearance by professional auctioneer, Pamela Bearden, who delighted the crowd with her great skill and sense of humor. Project Sister was also proud to feature Bob Cruz, Public Affairs Manager for the Southern California Gas Company, as the Master of Ceremonies for this very special event. Bob’s commitment to Project Sister Family Services and warm personality were a perfect combination for this very important role! Please view the photos of this year's event.
