Healing the Heart 2006 salutes Raymond P. Boucher,
UAW Community Service Committee
Project Sister Family Services' sixth annual Healing the Heart fund-raising event was held on Thursday, May 11, 2006 at the Sheraton Suites Fairplex in Pomona, raising nearly $34,000 in support of PSFS services and programs for survivors of sexual violence and child abuse in the East San Gabriel and Inland Valleys in the Greater Los Angeles area. This elegant evening presented a great opportunity for supporters and friends of Project Sister Family Services to gather over a lovely dinner, bid on fabulous live and silent auction items, and honor members of the community whose work has furthered Project Sister Family Services' mission to reduce the trauma and risk of sexual violence and child abuse.
Awards and honors
Project SISTER's 2006 Justice Armand Arabian Award was presented to Raymond P. Boucher, Liaison Attorney for over 700 cases and representing more than 360 victims in the lawsuits against the Archdioceses of Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange County, San Bernardino and Fresno in California. His inspirational keynote speech paid tribute to the courage of the survivors of sexual violence he has served.
The 2006 Project SISTER Founders Award was presented to United Auto Workers Community Service Committee Local 6645 from General Motors SPO 85, Rancho Cucamonga, in recognition of their dedication to Project Sister Family Services' mission, and tireless fund-raising efforts and support.
Filmmakers Jennifer Goyette and Igor Jadrovski were honored with a special Outstanding Volunteer Award for their work on the production of Project Sister Family Services' new teen dating violence prevention video, funded primarily by Verizon Wireless, entitled Fallout. This award recognized their generous donation of time, talent and resources to help keep young people safe and aware of important ways to establish healthy relationships.
Auction
This year's guests were also treated to a memorable appearance by professional auctioneer, Pamela Bearden, who delighted the crowd with her great skill and sense of humor. Her considerable contribution to this year's event began last year, when she donated her services as a silent auction item for Healing the Heart 2005. The item was purchased and donated to Project Sister Family Services for use at this year's event by an anonymous donor!
Major sponsors
Major sponsors for this year's event included the Whittier College VDAY Campaign and Cast of The Vagina Monologues, Kiesel, Boucher and Larson, The Southern California Gas Company, Burke Engineering, Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, United Auto Workers Community Service Committee Local 6645, Consumer Attorneys of California, Southwest Airlines, Citrus Valley Health Partners, Foothill Transit, and the Law Office of Taylor and Ring.
