PSFS Advocate training

Want to help people and learn life-enriching skills for yourself? Give the gift of yourself and make a difference in the lives of others by becoming a Project Sister Family Services advocate. Our 24-hour hotline provides immediate confidential crisis assistance to female and male adults, teens, and children who have been sexually assaulted, and to their families needing support.

By taking our state-certification training course you will be eligible to become a certified Crisis Intervention Counselor for Sexual Assault. You will learn about:

  • Crisis intervention
  • Psychological, sociological, and medical aspects of sexual assault
  • Criminal justice process
  • Legal procedures and valuable social service resources
  • Law enforcement
  • And so much more!

I. Fernandez has been a volunteer advocate since August of 2008.
“Being an advocate has turned into one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I consider myself fortunate to be a part of the PSFS family continuously working together to help reduce the trauma for those affected by sexual assault. It is by far the fuel that keeps me going every time I take a call and assist someone. I truly believe that together, we are all making a difference and I am proud to be a part of such an amazing journey.”

About The Training Course

We strongly urge you to submit your application as early as possible for processing before we can schedule your interview appointment. The application and interview process ENDS two weeks before a training starts. Training has limited slots; so do take action early to assure your spot.

Becoming a Volunteer Advocate

A non-refundable $75.00 materials fee is due at the first training session. Individuals graduating from our training class will become eligible to be a state-certified volunteer advocate providing direct services on both our 24-hour hotline and our hospital accompaniment programs as Sexual Assault Crisis Intervention Counselors. We ask Volunteer Advocates to make a committment of 18 volunteer hours per month for a 1-year period.

Non-Advocate Training

After much community demand, we will now be offering a limited number of spaces in each of our sexual assault training courses to individuals who wish to gain insight and knowledge rather than to make our customary 1-year volunteer commitment. Our training also satisfies Title IX requirements for educators. Early application/interview process also applies with a non-refundable $500 course fee due 5 days before the first training session to assure spot.
